Slow Cooker Paleo BBQ Shredded Pork

Making BBQ paleo approved can be a little tricky because most BBQ sauces are LOADED with sugar. Hidden in ketchup or blatantly used in cups of brown sugar. The average store bought BBQ sauce can have up to 50 grams of sugar PER SERVING. For that amount of sugar, you could be having a snickers bar. So here is our paleo version that has around 12 grams per version which wayyyy less! If you want to go even lower you can skip the maple syrup all together, but we have to warn you that it’s not going to taste stellar if you do that.

Slow Cooker Paleo BBQ Shredded Pork

  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 yellow onion sliced
  • 2 cups tomato puree
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper


  1. Mix: tomato puree, tomato paste, maple syrup, soy sauce, dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, salt, pepper, paprika, chili powder, cayenne pepper, onion powder, onions, and garlic in slow cooker.
  2. Add: pork to slow cooker and coat it in sauce.
  3. Cook: on high for 6-8 hours or on low for 8-10 hours.

Side Dish Suggestions: This goes great with our Cauliflower “Potato” Salad.

Get Fancy Tip: Try adding liquid smoke and this dish will taste closer to a slow roasted BBQ over a spit for hours infused with that amazing smokey flavor. You can get liquid smoke online or in the grocery store in the BBQ grilling or sauces section. You can also add some blended dates to make it a little sweeter, but be careful because this increases the sugar levels of the dish.
